About Foothills Park: Foothills Park is a 1,400 acre preserve with rugged chaparral, woodland, fields, streams, a lake, and spectacular views of the bay area. Wildlife abounds, and it is common to see deer and coyotes; if you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of a bobcat. There is over 15 miles of hiking trails in the park including the Toyon self-guided nature trail. Foothills Park is open to Palo Alto residents and their guests only. Proof of residency is required.

Hike Description: Our resident leader took us on the beautiful Los Trancos Trail which is the longest trail in the park. The hike is 7.39 miles and took us about 3.5 hours to complete. The climb up the Los Transos trail was steep and rugged with many scenic views along the way. The trail crosses through several plant communities and was about a 985 ft. elevation gain.
